Projection welding

Projection welding is a resistance welding process that offers perfectly controlled, high-quality welds.

The projection welding process

In projection welding, which is a special resistance welding process, the welding current is made to flow through bosses and projections made on the parts to be welded.

This ensures that the current flows through specific points on the sheet metal, controlling it better. A perfect and repeatable weld is therefore obtained.

In resistance welding, the metals are fused by means of heat generated by the current flowing from two electrodes connected to a transformer. The electrodes must exert a mechanical force to clamp the two parts while the current flows.

Projection welding is used to better manage the current flow and thus obtain perfect welded joints without defects and with excellent strength.

How projection welding works and its advantages

In projection welding, the current only flows through the projection section of the part, which must be properly designed. The material resistance increases at this point, allowing the current to generate the heat necessary for controlled fusion.

The current parameters are constantly monitored by the control equipment to ensure the success of each weld.

Projection welding is suitable in all cases of localized welding that does not require filler metal. Speed and high productivity are the main features of this widely used process in sheet metal fabrication.

Projection welding with Minifaber

At Minifaber, we deal with every aspect of cold sheet metal fabrication, including resistance and projection welding.

We weld all the main metal types: ferrous materials, including electro-galvanized, stainless steel and aluminum. Our projection welding service is aimed at manufacturing both semi-finished parts and finished and assembled products.

At Minifaber, we have versatile welding machines for every geometry and part to be welded, as well as custom machines for needs defined with the customer.

Whether your need is to produce small batches or large quantities of welded parts, contact us: we will provide more information about our services and a free quote for your project.
