Copper Bending

Thanks to its ductility and malleability, copper can be bent easily and quickly, achieving extremely accurate results.

The copper bending process in Minifaber

Copper bending is a process that requires careful analysis of specific material properties to ensure a high-quality result. Copper is known for its high ductility and malleability, two properties that make it particularly suitable for deformation. These qualities allow complex shapes and precise angles to be achieved without the risk of breaking or cracking, making copper ideal for applications in sectors such as electronics and electromechanics.

However, copper also has some peculiarities that can impact fabrication. Its sensitivity to scratching and surface imperfections requires special care when handling and using tools, and on contact surfaces.

To ensure the precision of the finished part and preserve aesthetic quality, specific solutions are adopted such as using protective films on the sheets or using rotary tools (roll bending).

Careful management of these aspects is essential to achieve an optimal result that meets the high expectations demanded by different industries in terms of functionality and aesthetics.

Because of these characteristics, copper bending is a highly versatile and strategic process that requires advanced technical skills and great attention to detail.

How copper bending is done

Copper bending is done with pairs of tools consisting of a blade, also called a punch, and a V-die. The sheet is placed on either side of the V-die, while the blade is pushed onto the sheet to create the bend.

Critical aspects of the process include the scratching that can be created by friction between the sheet metal and the V-die. A rotary tool called a roll bender is used to eliminate this scratching.

What machinery is needed for copper bending

For copper bending, we use latest generation CNC press brakes, which offer precise control over the bending force and angle. The correct bending angle is achieved by the precise stroke of the ram driving the bending blade.

If, on the other hand, you wanted to eliminate the marks caused by the friction of the sheet metal on the two planes of the V-die, you have to use a rotary tool called a roll bender.

The advantages of copper bending and how it differs from other materials

Being a malleable material, copper lends itself very well to bending, even with very tight radii, without the risk of cracking. Copper is widely used in the electromechanical sector because of its known electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity.

With our know-how and the use of advanced technologies, we ensure precise, efficient copper bending in line with the quality standards required by the most demanding sectors.
