CNC metal punch: how is it done?
Metal punching, one of the processes performed by Minifaber, is useful for working sheet metal in different types of metal. Let's find out how it works and how it is operated through CNC.
The CNC punching process is a type of sheet metal and metalworking that allows shape modifications, holes, drawings or particular cutouts to be made in the piece subjected to deformation.
In the course of this article we will examine:
What is CNC metal punching?
CNC metal punch is the modification of metal sheets of different types, such as steel or aluminum. In the past, metal punching was done manually, while today the sheet metal punching technique uses automatic numerical control (CNC) machines. Automatic punching machines are made up of punches and dies of standard or special shapes, depending on the final design required. They are set through particular commands that determine the cutting line, the pressure and other parameters.
CNC punching is carried out by means of the CNC metal punching machine and the deburring machine: first, a basic shape, the matrix, is made, which is then replicated in a series of equal shapes. After that, by applying strong pressure, a sheet or plate of metal is cut out to obtain the semi-finished product.
CNC steel punching
In recent years, the demand for steel processing has increased. Companies demand more and more precision and customization in the realization: for this reason in Minifaber we offer a customized service of CNC punching of steel and stainless steel. The hardness of the material implies a higher pressure to imprint and cut the required shape and suitable machinery. Minifaber's fleet of machines is capable of punching steel thanks to the power and cutting-edge technology of its machinery.
Aluminum CNC punching
Aluminum is a very ductile material, with a lower strength than other metals such as iron and steel. Therefore, even though the punching process is easier, you should not underestimate the imperfections that could result from careless processing. Minifaber is aware of this necessity and uses CNC machinery with maximum precision in engraving and cutting, to always obtain high-quality semi-finished and finished products.
Iron CNC punching machine
Iron is another one of the hardest materials to work with. The CNC punching of iron must therefore be carried out with the right machinery to avoid smears and errors. Thanks to the right play between matrix and punch, in Minifaber we perform a workmanlike iron punching until we obtain the piece with characteristics suitable for its final use. This type of punching is especially suitable for electromechanical products and for the gas distribution sector.
Copper CNC punching
Like aluminum, copper is a soft material to which less pressure is applied for punching and cutting. This allows for meticulous workmanship on the one hand, but on the other hand, requires more care to prevent unwanted deformation on the metal or irregularities in the edges.
